Sexually active adults at risk of attracting HIV now have the option to take a preventive pill to reduce getting infected.
Yesterday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Truvada, an antiretroviral solution by Gilead Sciences made of two HIV medications, Emtriva and Viread. It’s a pill researchers say consumers should take once a day and use with other preventitive methods, such as condoms.
The news comes after a 30+ year fight against AIDS. Although Truvada isn’t a cure and won’t have any affect on those already carrying the disease, it’s going to be used as a method to keep the disease from spreading to those uninfected.
