Jill Scott put on for her hometown city last night (June 23) at the Philadelphia stop of her second annual “Summer Block Party” tour.
Joining the North Philly native at the Mann Center were Eric Roberson and Kem, the latter of who—dressed in all white. The neo-soul saint sang some of his biggest records including “Share My Life”, “Think About Us” and “Find Your Way.” Kem also shared relationship advice with the fellas following Roberson’s freestyle that incorporated keywords shouted out by the audience. Between sets, Philly’s own Jazzy Jeff kept the crowd moving with 80s dance tunes.
The night was everything entertaining, as the outdoor entertainment venue gradually set the scene for the R&B songstress. Not only was the Mann jam packed with live music, but there was also an abundance of food, drinks, and comedy.
Using the Botswana accent she adopted from her lead role in The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency HBO series, Jill explained the difference between “screwing” and love-making. She also acted out a commercial for a product that would prevent sweaty balls while poking fun at Rick Ross and Waka Flocka. Who knew Jilly-from-Philly was so comical.
But, it was those humorous moments that served as a segue into each of her songs, some of which had couples in the crowd holding on tight to each other. Miss Jill Scott performed songs ranging from “Cross My Mind” and “Hate On Me,” to “A Long Walk” and “Golden.” She also graced us with her newest single, “Blessed.”
Jill Scott’s 2012 “Summer Block Party” closed with a bunch of thank-you’s to her crew, Philadelphia’s renowned radio host Patty Jackson of WDAS FM, and her hometown and fans for their continued support.
